Portfolio 3.0.4 bug fixes information

No documentation about what was fixed as they aren’t really exciting fixes that most people are going to run into.

Besides the Compatibility update for Smart Keywords here is what else is included:

  • More robust logging for startup failures
  • Sometimes assets partially cataloging when adding multiple assets via “add items”
  • Fixes issue with Startup Failure sometimes not clearing
  • Fixes issue with lot of Watch Folders sometimes causing startup to fail

Why is suitcase the only software I own that requires me to repair or uninstall and reinstall everytime Windows performs an update? this is most annoying and disruptive.

QuickMatch functionality?

Really not happy with the new QuickMatch, I would be able to find thousands, and now I get 20 at best. How do QuickMatch like before?

Portfolio API login fail 500

HI,

I am using a HTTP client to login to the Portfolio 2017 API.

This works on another version of portfolio but returns
response code HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error
{“faultCode”:“NotSerialized”,“message”:“Not serialized for API use”}

on another, am I able to send my request another way to get pased this problem or is it an error in the internal portfolio instance?

That’s all fine and well. Trust us, we understand.

But why remove the column view mode? Do you not realize that was the most useful feature of Suitcase Fusion?

I’m totally fine with paying for a new version of Suitcase Fusion every 9 months, but only as long as it has the column view mode. Without that feature, your product is useless for any design professional.

I’ve used various versions of Suitcase for more years than I care to admit. So when I updated Adobe CC, I didn’t think twice about updating Suitcase so I could still have auto-activated fonts. I wasn’t expecting an interface that makes it nearly impossible for me to find fonts to design with! As tedious as it is to manually activate fonts, I need to be able to see my fonts, sorted by their categories. So if I’m looking for a script, I can find it. If I’m looking for fonts that don’t have a category, I can find them too, And if I don’t recall exactly how to spell something, but know the first letter, I can jump to that part of the alphabet by starting to search. I don’t know what UI problems Extensis was trying to solve, but their solution makes working with my font library next to impossible.

I have Problems with exporting fonts, normally i collect Fonts by sorting them in “coloumn view” (lol good old times) by actived fonts and select the and drag them to a folder. Thats for giving them to clients and partners for the project. Doesnt work, just 1 of 9 files was exported. Please UPDATE your app, or just give Version 7 the ability to work with CC 2018, this is maybe the easiest way!

I’m doing the same thing today, but I previously owned 7, which functions much better. I know the font database got upgraded, so if you once had 7, you may need to go back to an earlier system backup. The only Adobe CC 2018 program that 7 seems to not work with is Indesign, so if you can do that manually, you’ll be fine.

Unfortunately, that didn’t give me any more insight into this. Can you please do the following:

  1. Tell me the version of the Portfolio Server you are using and the OS it is running on.
  2. Switch the Portfolio Server to debug level logging (admin–>Global Settings–>Logging Configuration)
  3. Show me the applicable log output from server.log. (After you have run the upload, you may want to switch the logging back to what it was.)
  4. Tell me what client OS you are using.

If the debug logging doesn’t tell us something I can try making a build with extra logging in it that is compatible with the version of Portfolio you are using.

The new version is a brick with no window to throw it at. I ran into all the same problems many other commenters have mentioned (specifically the loss of the column view) and reached out to Extensis customer support and received a full refund. Click here to see how.

No problem. And when you do the downgrade, read through all the instructions and follow them precisely. I didn’t and spent a couple of hours digging myself out of that hole.


QuickMatch functionality?

Hi Paul,

There haven’t been any changes make to QuickMatch outside of capping the number of fonts returned to 5. This of course will limit the number of items returned on a QuickMatch but there isn’t anyway to get 1000s of matches, even in SF7.

My company has been notified. She also does not understand how after less than a year of buying a license she still has to pay for a new version, especially at the same price. Well played Extensis. She is looking for another solution for the same job. What a shame when you see that you do not take into account your customers.

I get this error
24 AM
at this stage of installation
32 AM
every time I try to upgrade to Suitcase Fusion 8. I then have to get 7 off backup to function.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,

Knowing the OS’s involved is helpful, but I also need to know what version of Portfolio server you are using. Please reproduce the problem and send me the most recent server.log file as well as the latest usage.log file.
