BUG: Using Wacom Pen, Illustrator's font window scrolls horizontally with no way to reset

$

Thanks so much.

If it’s of any help, here’s a GIF:

Looks like it happens if a font name extends further to right than window width. In the above, I am using Google Fonts as example.

The only two fixes:

  1. Quit and restart app
  2. Make window bigger (this isn’t a great solution as there is a max width set on the palette window and some font names are longer than the max width so I can’t get back to the left side of the window)

I think a simple fix would be to remove the max width (or make the max width restriction be larger width-wise) or allow for a horizontal scrollbar.

Thanks!

[solved] Postscript name does not match display name in Suitcase Fusion

Ahhh, that makes total sense.

In this case, the fonts that I see problems with were fonts I got from the internet. I think I will just trash them rather than try to modify their metadata.

Seems like any font worth keeping would not have this issue.

Thanks so much for your help!

Archiving via API?

Hi,

The actual moving or copying of the assets is pretty simple to do via the API, or the new Server-Side Scripting feature in Portfolio 2017. Let us know if you have any technical questions on how to do this, we’ll be happy to help!

I think you’re right that the more involved question is when to archive the assets. This really just depends on your business needs, but we’ve helped customers with this in the past. One common scenario is using a custom date field in Portfolio, which stores when an asset’s usage rights expire. Once that date passes, the asset can be automatically exported to another folder and/or catalog. Another common scenario is to store assets in folders based on the year they can be used, for instance if you are publishing an annual catalog of products. Then every new year, the entire folder can be archived.

Goodbye to Open Directory support in Universal Type Server

As our team continues to make improvements in Universal Type Server, we sometimes have to make tough choices by phasing out features and functions no longer relevant for the majority of our customers. So we wanted to give our customers still using Open Directory an early head’s up to upcoming changes.

With the next major release of UTS we will be ending support for synchronizing Open Directory user accounts. Customers who use this functionality will have to decide their upgrade strategy when moving from UTS v6.

In our next major version, Open Directory Service user accounts will automatically be converted to Native UTS accounts but can still be used. However, new Open Directory user accounts will no longer be added.

UTS will continue to support the synchronization of Active Directory accounts, manual user creation and importing users via a text file as the various methods for managing users.

Thanks for your understanding and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers,
Chris Meyer

We will keep you posted here, so please watch this post or check back for updates.

Apple has announced they will be releasing their latest macOS version 10.13 (High Sierra) on September 25th so we wanted to let you know the status of Extensis software compatibility.

Disclaimer:
Make sure your Extensis software is fully compatible before upgrading.
While we have been testing early access builds along the way it generally takes a few days for us to fully-qualify our applications against Apple’s final shipping version. That means we may require additional time after Apple’s release to identify issues and share our resolution plans.

Stay tuned here and on the Extensis blog site for up-to-date information - Extensis Support for macOS.
Note: Older versions of Extensis software may continue to work with OS X 10.13 but will not be “officially” supported by Extensis.

Here is the latest information regarding Extensis compatibility with High Sierra:

Suitcase Fusion
Suitcase Fusion 7 is compatible with macOS 10.13. Extensis is not aware of any issues at this time.

Suitcase TeamSync

To help focus testing we would like to hightlight a few areas:

  • TeamSync and TypeSync - Are fully support with no changes needed for users, please let us know if you have any issues with a TeamSync or a TypeSync library.

  • Grid Preview - our new preview mode which allows you to view font info and a preview all in one convient way. Please try this new mode and let us know what you think.

  • Integrated Info - We have designed the new Get Info to include anything and everything you would need to know about a font. The redesigned info panels provide the following:

    • Font Metadata: this includes general font information as well as listing all supported languages and user entered comments
    • Preview: See a larger preview of the font in any text you choose
    • QuickMatch: Integrated into the main window to provide a simpler way to find matching fonts
    • Glyphs: View and see information about selected glyphs as well as all Unicode code pages for the selected font
  • Edit Attributes - Allows you to assign and modify the metadata of your fonts, from Tags for organization to updating foundry and classification info, you can track your fonts as you see fit.

  • Temporary Fonts Library - Temporarily added fonts now have a permemnt library to reside in. This cleans up the UI and makes it much easier to track temporary font usage.

Auto Activation issues - Adobe Photoshop CC 2017

So I contacted Extensis support as requested. They say it’s a Photoshop problem because Suitcase is auto activating the fonts, Photoshop is either not seeing them or is responsible for converting my fonts to Myriad. I talked to Adobe and they say it’s a problem with Extensis and that they don’t support third party software. So I’m back to where I started. Some fonts show up in Photoshop, some convert to Myriad. So very frustrating and dangerous!!!

The activating of Myriad in place of missing fonts really is so dangerous! It’s almost tripped me up a few times now. Very bad.

Most of the time I’m finding opening psd documents twice activates the correct fonts. I’ve actually taken to transferring a lot of my jobs over to Indesign (where I don’t have the issue) not great though and obviously not everyone can do this.

Disgusting really, considering how much we pay for these software applications. Not impressed.

If your Adobe application is substituting the default font of Myriad, then Suitcase is not finding the correct font to activate. Please try the following steps to find the appropriate font:

  • First, turning off the Pick Best Match feature of the your Suitcase plug-in in your Adobe application. This will allow you to see different missing font information displayed more prominently when trying to trouble shoot (screenshot below).

  • An example to on how to turn off Pick Best Match, select the following menu in InDesign:

  • Type/Suitcase Fusion/Suitcase Fusion Auto-Activation preferences

PickBestMatch

Other examples can be found here:

**

  • Then re-open your document and see a new dialog box for the missing font. Please not that it will now display the missing font and the FontSense ID number:

**

  • Now use the Font ID number information in Suitcase to find if you have the missing font available. We would suggest using the FIND FONT function under the Edit Menu in Suitcase Fusion. This will allow you to narrow the search to the specific FontSense ID number.

If the font is ‘NOT’ displayed during your search when using the font ID number, then it is not available and will not activate.

Right off the bat, I strongly dislike the removal of the column view. I have quite a few multiples of various fonts and need to quickly select by type and/or version number. Having that info displayed one font at a time will keep me from recommending SCF8 to my department.
