Honestly, I’d love to solve this issue, still… Really does make font management suck when you know you have good fonts with bad names (at least, in the eyes of the font management software). Wondering why Font Doctor doesn’t help to solve this kind of problem? Or, a simple option to use postscript name.
[solved] Postscript name does not match display name in Suitcase Fusion
Open letter to anyone listening at Extensis
Update! Here’s the questions I asked and the answers I got from the webcast:
Q: Extensis has made much of the new interface being “streamlined” and you used that word several times yourself during the webcast. How do you define “streamlined” when the changes and omissions in the new interface have made many tasks objectively harder or more time-consuming to perform? I am thinking specifically of the missing list view, the modal attributes dropdown and the info ‘drawer’ which are retrograde steps and require many more mouseclicks to perform the same things that could be done with a single click in Suitcase Fusion 7. What productivity problems were the developers solving by making these changes?
[Question went unanswered]
Q: Have you been to the forums recently? No-one is answering any questions or problems there.

Q: No-one is answering emails on this subject either.
A: Hi Ian, I can understad your frustration and please be reasured that we will contact our development team on this. Would you be OK for us to contact you directly on this subject? I’ll get our team to connect with you on this soon. Hope this is OK. Thank you
Q: Yes! Please do! My attempts to make contact are detailed here: Open letter to anyone listening at Extensis
A: OK, thank you for your feedback, we will look into this for you and someone will be in touch soon.
So I got a response, at least. Remains to be seen if I’ll be contacted as promised.
UTC Windows Font Cache
Using The Foundry’s Nuke with UTC on OSX has been pretty straightforward. I point an environment variable NUKE_FONT_PATH
to /Library/Extensis/UTC/####(uid)
and the fonts I’ve loaded get picked up.
However, doing the same on Windows is proving challenging. Where exactly do I need to point to on Windows for the same functionality? I can’t find it in the documentation, so if I’ve missed it somewhere I’d be thrilled to know.
Batch Process Zipping files
Hi,
One way to download multiple files without zipping them is to drag and drop the selected assets from the Portfolio Desktop client to a location on your desktop. Otherwise, if the result of a download or batch process operation contains multiple files they will always be downloaded in a zip archive.
I hope this helps. I wish I had a better solution for you.

Suitcase Fusion plug-in slows Adobe InDesign to a crawl
Hi,
I see our support team has a ticket for your response. Please continue to work with them on resolving your issue.
Renaming Fonts: Is it possible to restore to Postscript name?
The only way to change font names is via a font editing applications. FontLab is one I can think of… Others may be available on the market.
Due to font licensing, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of the font in regards to any modification or renaming.
Accidentally mis-classified every font!
Where are the classifications hidden? I’ve tried replacing preferences in Library but everything still shows up as Slab Serif. Spent mindless days properly classifying everything. Now its lost. Running latest Mac OS with Suitcase 18.2.4 (latest before horrid v8)
Batch Process Zipping files
Dragging and dropping won’t work with a batch convert (If I am wrong tell me how to do it) only original files. The purpose of software is to make work easier not more difficult and by not having an option to Zip or not makes everyone at my company workflow more difficult and time consuming.
Besides who zips up compressed JPG files, total waste of time.
Extensis needs to at least put the option to not ZIP files when downloading or Batch Converting.
Accidentally mis-classified every font!
Due to the nature of this request, we recommend you contact our Support Team using the following link:
Batch Process Zipping files
Hi Dan,
I would love to have a better solution for downloading multiple files, but it is not something that is commonly done in browsers or any application that I’m familiar with. However, just because it is not common doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
Do you have an example of an application that does this?
What Portfolio client are you using? The clients are:
- The new (3.0) desktop client
- The new (3.0) browser client
- The old (pre-3.0) flash-based browser client
- The old (pre-3.0) desktop client called Express
Also, what client operating system do you use?
The purpose of zip archiving is both to compress and to combine the files into a single file which can be downloaded by a browser. Most browsers don’t support by default downloading multiple files in one gesture.
Some combinations of browsers and operating systems can automatically unzip downloaded zip archives, but setting that up is specific to those browsers and OS’s.
What is the experience that you would like to see? Is it:
- When the batch process is complete, click on the download button.
- Select a folder.
- All files are downloaded into the folder.
?
This may seem like an obvious question, but it’s important that we have a clear of idea of what you want.

UTC Windows Font Cache
Removal of the UTC Typecache is NOT a recommend workflow. Doing so, can create several issues. A couple of examples are listed below:
-
Removing “Typecache” requires UTS clients to bulk replicate each time with the server to regain all files. This will put unnecessary overhead that can contribute to server performance issues.
-
The Typecache also contains the user’s client database, font repository and quickmatch indexes.
Server error when uploading images (PF 2016)
Dear Brooks,
First regarding your version question: As you already can read in the subject line: I’m working with Portfolio 2016. It runs on a standard Windows 10 machine; the installation procedure was running fine without any errors.
I’ve tried to upload files by the classic flash client, and actually I’m experiencing problems here as well. The upload fails, this is what the server log contains:

UTC Windows Font Cache
I’m not looking to remove it. Quite the contrary: I want to have The Foundry’s Nuke compositing software reference the typecache so that the fonts are available to the program. It parses the directories in an environment variable called NUKE_FONT_PATH and uses the fonts inside.
I just want to know where the typecache is so I can point to it in Windows. That’s all.

I have sent you information regarding the location in a message. Please review. - Thanks
Open letter to anyone listening at Extensis
This latest Suitcase has been a complete disaster, and only now are they politely saying that they will “contact their development team” to provide answers or a fix?
Why aren't we seeing action from the owner on a fix for Suitcase 8?
The users have clearly spoken about this unfortunate release, and aside from a few ambiguous “we’re contacting development” -type responses, we’re seeing nothing.
As a long-time customer, this is a slap in the face. Can someone at least give us a progress report on what’s being done?

Is every year another $60?
I won’t say names, but I found an alternative and I’m pretty happy with it, and it’s FREE (I would happily pay for it). It’s a great piece of software, and devs are repying quickly, fixing the app with weekly updates.
My relationship with Extensis was going and coming back for many years, after the latest release and fusion 7 not working just after a few months with the release of CC2018, I’m done.
