Problem installing: Suitcase Fusion could not open the Font Vault

Hello,

I can't seem to install the new Suitcase Fusion 7. Previously I had Suitcase Fusion 5 installed, and I think that has something to do with the problem. I uninstalled SF5, but there's a folder "C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Extensis\Suitcase Fusion\Suitcase Fusion.fontvault" that I can not seem to delete, and that may be the cause of the problem.

The install wizard does not report any problems, but after restarting the PC and opening SF7 I see the following alert:
Suitcase Fusion could not open the Font Vault at the location "C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Extensis\Suitcase Fusion\Suitcase Fusion.fontvault".

I hope someone can help me out with this?

Kind regards,
Yves

Hi Yves,

We have a KBA on this topic here that should get you up and running.

Hello,

That's a tutorial for OSX, I work on Windows 7.

I can not move or do anything with the folder, it stays locked. I even
tried the Windows Safe Mode (as some forum entries suggested) but I can't
do anything with the folder in Safe Mode either.

Hi Yves,

My apologies for that. Here is an article on the Windows side of things. Although it mentions Fusion 5, the basic troubleshooting is the same. Basically, you need to shut down the FMCore and build a new vault.

Thanks for your assitance Mike, but that doesn't work for me.

  • FMCore.exe is not running, it's not in the Processes tab, probably because I already removed as much Extensis files as I could.

  • I have deleted these:
    C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Extensis\com.extensis.FMCore-LaunchInfo.conf
    C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Extensis\com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.db
    C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Extensis\FontManagementUI.exe (folder)

  • Windows doesn't allow me to move the Fontvault folder (and that's the main problem I suppose)

Hi inkpot_printing,

I see from our records that Extensis Technical Support has responded to your support ticket and hope you got your issue resolved.

Filtering NetPublish website access directly by user group possible?

That's exactly the problem. I can imagine you can solve it (a) having the possibility to work somehow with the AD groups directly or (b) have some kind of gropus defined in portfolio mapped to the AD groups.

It doesn't matter what is the technical solution, the point is to work with "groups" instead of working with single users.

Thx for the comment.

Suitcase: Version 18.0.4 (970)
Mac: Version 10.11.6 (15G31) El Capitan

Have downloaded the update, then when the 87.5MB file opens, it comes up with a message saying:
Update Error - An error occurred while extracting the archive. Please try again later. - Cancel update

I have tried again later, but it's still the same.

Suitcase has had multiple crashes recently. Can someone please help.

Hi graphic-designer,

Sorry to hear you are having difficulty with the update. A few things...

Do you have a Suitcase Fusion v18.1.0.pkg file in your downloads folder? This is what should be extracting from the .zip file you receive from the application update. If so, you can try right clicking and Open With > Installer.

If you are not seeing that file, you can download the installer directly here: http://bin.extensis.com/SuitcaseFusion7-M-18-1-0.zip and run the resulting .pkg file with the Installer.

Also, you might want to disable any anti-virus software you are running as that can sometimes interfere with the install process. Also any applications that are running at the time of install might be conflicting, so it is recommended to close those as well if you are having issues.

Hello,

I am not a suitcase fusion user, but do have a user operating the product which is giving the following error:

We have tried deleting the font and re-adding without luck.
Running font doctor.
I did have a quick look for a fix here...didn't see it, maybe I missed it. Please help.

Error Message:
Missing Original Version (1of8)
The original version of 8 of the fonts in the current document cannot be found in the Suitcase Fusion database.

Options are: Cancel All, Skip, Previous, Next.

How do you fix this?

Thank you,
Tony.

Hi Tony,

This behavior (the recurring dialog box) was a known issue with earlier versions of Suitcase Fusion and InDesign. You don't mention the host application or the version of Fusion your user is on and I would recommend that you make sure your user is on the most recent version (v18.1). You can grab the update via the auto-updater by selecting:

Mac: Suitcase Fusion -> Check for Updates...
Windows: Tools -> Check for Updates...

You can also download the latest installer from our website here:

Individually editing a description for an asset after upload

It is possible to individually edit an assets 'description' once it has been uploaded to Extensis? Every time I have attempted, it has reformatted each of the photos labeled with the same date with the same description.

In alternative words: Is the initial upload the only way to change a description for a single asset?

Hi williajo,

You should certainly be able to add or change a description after the initial upload for any asset in Portfolio. Simply enter in (or edit the existing text) and click the Submit button under the field. Can you explain a bit more about the behavior you are seeing? Does Portfolio allow you to enter the text? Does the text then disappear upon returning to the thumbnail?

Thank you for your reply. Portfolio allows me to enter text but it will then transfer the text and apply it to all the assets with the same date. For example if I put the word 'Summer day' under an asset with the date 20150304, then it would also show up in the description to each asset with 20150304.

What is the preferred method of handling two completely different fonts with the same name?

I discovered I have several instances of different font authors giving their font the exact same name. While Suitcase seems to let both fonts be included in the Font Library (since they are, after all, different fonts), one of them is often ignored. It shows up in the Extensis Panel but clicking on it to activate it does not work; it activates the other one. How is it recommended to handle this situation?

Hi Lois!

Well this is a particular situation that Windows doesn't really handle well. On Windows you can only have a single font with the same PS name active at once.

So if you have the following:

Times New Roman from Adobe and Times New Roman from Monotype

...you will only be able to activate one or the other one at any one time. The best option would be to remove the one you don't need (assuming you don't need the duplicate). You can quickly find all your duplicates by clicking on the Duplicate Fonts Smart Search included in Suitcase Fusion 7.

If you depend on both fonts you will probably need to activate the one you want via the Suitcase Fusion client instead of the panel to ensure you get the correct one (mainly because you can't really tell which is which via the panel)

The Mac OS doesn't have this limitation, just in case anyone was curious

Hope that helps and thanks for using Suitcase Fusion 7.

What is the preferred method of handling two completely different fonts with the same name?

Hello Clint,

Thanks for the reply… But the
situation is that they are two entirely different fonts. One is a script and
the other a slab serif titling font. So deleting one or the other is not an
option.

It seems like I will have to resort to using my FontCreator software
and changing the name of one of them. I was reluctant to do this as the
designer probably wouldn’t approve but my feeling is that if one is designing
fonts, it might be a good idea to do a real thorough search to be sure there
are no other fonts with the name you are considering…

If anyone else has a suggestion that doesn't involve making font designers mad at me, give a shout.
