When my team opens documents in Quark 2016 the fonts don't auto activate like they did is previous versions. "Manage pulp-ins" is active. The extension shows it active in Quark 2016 under extension manager.

Mac OS X 10.12.4
Suitcase Fusion 18.2.2 (1445
Quark 2016 12.2.1

Any help appreciated! Thank you!
Chris

The problem with selecting 'pick nearest match' is suitcase still slows indesign to a crawl. I am having to get the document open - after the fonts are auto activated - and then turn off suitcase through the type menu to work at an effective pace. The fact that this issue has re occured after it being fixed previously is bad

Hi Darrell,

There have been no changes to the code in that part of the application since the update in June of last year, so it is surprising to hear this is reoccurring for you - sounds frustrating. I would suggest contacting Extensis technical support using our online contact form:

It is possible you are encountering issues with Postscript fonts not activating properly in your application. Please use the following link for information:

Working remotely

Hello posterns,

Transitioning should be relatively painless and your remote user situation is pretty common amongst many of our Universal Type Server customers.

Firstly, Universal Type Client and Suitcase Fusion's interfaces are very similar so you shouldn't need much learning time to begin using it. The main difference between the two is that your font library will now be managed by the Server and automatically synchronized to your local machine whenever changes occur.

You do not have to be on the same network to connect to UTS but access is required for regular synchronization to be successful. Depending upon how often you need new fonts from UTS, it may work best to synchronize over the VPN since your fonts are locally cached.

Either way, UTS offers multiple synchronization methods, flexible sync times as well as numerous permission levels to ensure remote users like yourself have the fonts they need when they need them.

Our Professional Services and Support Teams are always available to help answer questions regarding the best configuration for your needs. If you have any specific concerns about your company's implementation don't hesitate to privately email me and I will get you in touch with the best Extensis expert to walk you through the setup.

Thanks for your feedback and support of Extensis Font Management solutions.

Cheers,

I changed my Mac Home folder name. Now I get the "can't find font vault" error because its looking in the old folder location. Where can I find the preference that points to this information. It was running Suitcase 5 but I updated it to 6 however, it must still use the same pref file.

I should have added that the error message end with a quit button. You can not access any preferences. I think I was looking more for the system file that holds the preferences to delete or modify it. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Please remove all of the following preference files from the path below:

o Users/{username}/Library/Preferences/com.extensis….(preferences)

NOTE - You can quickly access your Library folder from the finder's GO menu by selecting GO and then hold down the key on your keyboard.

Once the preferences have been removed, re-launch the Suitcase application.

Auto activate loop InDesign CC 2017

So this was happening to me and what I discovered was it wasn't the fonts fault. I had a placed pdf file that used the true type version of Eurostile Bold, meanwhile I had the postscript version used on a different page of the document. So it kept turning one on and the other off in what seemed to be a veritable loop. Don't know if this helps you, but it was my experience with something similar.

Disabling the contextual control feature in Indesign helped with this particular issue (although it's not related to the original problem). To do this?

Go to preferences->advanced type and then turning off Type Contextual Control check box at the bottom of the dialog box

I have found a number of cases where this has sped up InDesign considerably.

System Freezes when upgrading to 18.2.2

After upgrading to 18.2.2, I was experiencing total system freezes when working with InDesign and Illustrator CC 2017. It was to the point that the haptic trackpad on my MacBook Pro was completely unresponsive, and rebooting was the only option.

To be sure it wasn't anything else, I had done the following:
-Cleared font caches.
-Deleted preference files for Suitcase, InDesign, and Illustrator
-Updated Creative Cloud to latest versions
-Reinstalled Creative Cloud Desktop
-Made sure macOS Sierra 10.12.4 was current
-Removed all other plugins
-Reinstalled Suitcase Fusion 18.2.2
-In MacOS, ran SMC and NVRAM resets

None of this seemed to help. On a hunch, I contacted Extensis support to get the 18.2.1 installer, which I then ran. So far, none of the crashes, performance has been solid.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Hi Karl,

Thanks for your questions. I see our support team has responded to your issue. However, I would also like to know if you have a login item from a previous version of Suitcase in you User profile. Please check the following:

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups
  • Select the user, then click Login Items
  • Remove any Suitcase references by selecting the item and clicking the minus button
  • Restart your computer

I would then recommend trying your system for the day and see if everything works properly. Then upgrade to the latest version of Suitcase and seeing if the performance remains the same.

Thanks for the reply--I just checked in the Login Items, and there are no references to Suitcase there. I don't believe there were any before I started experiencing the issues.

Thanks for the reply. A couple of additional questions:

  • Is this a recently acquired or new computer? If yes, did you use the migration tool from Apple to move your files and applications to this machine?
  • Any recent upgrade from one macOS to another (i.e - 10.10 upgraded to 10.12)?

Thanks--
I've been using this machine for over a year, and keep it regularly updated, including the latest MacOS update. The latest MacOS update (10.12.4) was done on 3/27.

Question marks in Safari and Mail

Computer: iMac running Sierra, Universal Type Client 6

Problem: Safari and Mail show question marks in place of text. Looks like:
⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰ ⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰⍰ ⍰⍰

Attempted solutions:
* Clear font cache in UTC: computer restarts, problem is gone…for a short time. Returns within minutes.
* Deactivate various fonts in Font Book: problem is gone…for a short while. Returns again.
* Run Onyx (https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/index.html which includes clearing the font cache. Problem is gone…returns again after a short time.

I have seen the Extensis post for how to reduce system fonts in El Capitan, disable font book, etc. Those instructions don’t seem to apply to Sierra.

There seems to be some process, program or action that is activating a font that is conflicting with something in WebKit (whatever that is…I’m getting this from having read other posts). But I am not sure as to how to locate that suspect action, identify what font is conflicting, reduce system fonts, disable Font Book, or other steps specifically related to Sierra.

Any help would be appreciated. We have 4 or 5 other machines running Safari and UTC 6 without any trouble. I’m not sure why just this one machine is having so much trouble.

The Universal Type Client failed to connect to the Universal Type Server

When I first log in for the day, my UTC 6 says: "The Universal Type Client failed to connect to the Universal Type Server.”

I then click OK, go to the menu “Server / Forget Connection…” and then click on “Forget Connection”. The correct information is displayed in the “Connect to Server” window that pops up. I just click “Connect” (i.e. accepting all fields as completed by default) and it connects.

Question: Why do I need to go through all these steps each day to connect to the UTS? Can I do something to change this?

Thanks for your questions. I have sent you a message on how to contact our support team. These typical error messages are due to how your connection and/or LDAP authentication is setup and being verified.
