Thanks for your question. Universal Type Client does not view font kerning or open type features. Is there a specific reason you need these features? Are you needing to verify you have the correct font for projects?

How do you typically evaluate fonts? With what program? Are you introducing fonts for comparison in to projects or documents?

I typically evaluate in FontExplorer Pro, however this is my work computer and they are using Universal Type. FontExplorer Pro has a lot of great features for inspecting and testing a font within its font management app. For instance, you can turn kerning on or off, adjusting tracking, view kerning pairs, and basically have access to a lot of typesetting tools that you would normally only have in a program like InDesign.

An example where access to kerning pair info and Open Type features: say you have two versions of a font, one perhaps came with your OS and another you purchased from a type foundry. Viewing the kerning pair info and Open Type features can help evaluate which font is superior for the project at hand.

Another example is that FontExplorer Pro Glyph View is far better, in that you can quickly access different tables of the glyphs. Say you were typesetting a financial report and you required a font with true small-caps, superior, inferior, numerator, denominator, etc. and this can be quickly accessed, viewed and assessed in FXPro.

I did find the root of my issue (did take some time), and had nothing to do with Suitcase or any other plugin.

I was pretty methodical, and had deleted all Adobe CC apps, as well as plugins, ran all system patches, ran Disk First Aid, permissions repairs, SMC and NVRAM resets, as well as deleting older cruft (at times multiple instances of this), and still was getting the issue. Running hardware diagnostics indicated no issues. It did take quite some searching, but came to this—there’s a known bug with GPU acceleration in Adobe apps and the video driver in the OS for some Intel graphics chipsets. This doesn’t only affect Macs, but Windows machines (according to the Adobe boards) running the same chipset.

The result is a complete system crash, where everything, including the trackpad was unresponsive, necessitating reboots. Since turning off the GPU acceleration, things have been rock solid.

When I open a PSD in Photoshop all of my fonts have an exclamation mark, I then have to close and reopen the PSD file for the fonts to actually activate. This has been a problem since Suitcase Fusion 6 and Adobe CC 2015, I was hoping that upgrading to Suitcase Fusion 7 and Adobe CC 2017 would fix this problem but the problem is still there.

I work with Photoshop every day with multiple PSD files and am just getting tired of having to open everything twice. Will this be fixed in a future update?

Thanks for your question. We are not seeing this issue on the current version of Suitcase Fusion.

You could try removing the Suitcase preferences from your User folder - Macintosh HD\Users\USERNAME\Library\Preferences\ then remove anything that says com.extensis...

No. They are all retained in the vault of suitcase and not the preferences.

Activating Fonts Is Not Working

I use Suitcase Fusion 7 (Version 18.2.2) on Mac OS X (Version 10.12.4) and when I try and activate (or delete) fonts from Suitcase it stalls and just says preparing font. When I try and delete fonts, it does the same thing. No matter what font I try. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

You do NOT have to uninstall and reinstall to get it working again.

This works for the latest "Creative" update.

I was able to run the installer, select MODIFY and continue.

I did NOT restart after the modify install. I immediately opened up InDesign. It loaded my fonts perfectly.

Creators Update Font Activation Fix

After installing the "Creators" update you will lose activation of fonts (I tested this with InDesign).

Previous fixes for major updates suggested uninstalling and reinstalling. You do NOT have to uninstall and reinstall to get it working again.

I'm using the latest Photoshop (CC 2017.1) and the latest Suitcase Fusion 7, I'm just saying that this issue with having to open PSD files twice has been present since the previous Adobe CC and Suitcase fusion.

After the Photoshop CC 2017.1 update the Suitcase Fusion 7 plugin is not working at all. Autoactivation isn't working and when I activate fonts manually they do not appear in Photoshop, I have to close Photoshop, activate the fonts I want in suitcase, then open Photoshop again for the fonts to appear.
